The Fort Morgan Mustangs will face off against the Thompson Valley Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Morgan has given up an average of 26 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Friday, Fort Morgan had to suffer through a 54-19 loss at the hands of Roosevelt. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Roughriders recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jj Marquez, who threw for 222 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes. Ben Fritzler helped Marquez out on the ground, picking up 89 receiving yards and one score.
Meanwhile, Thompson Valley had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They blew past the Mountain Lions, posting a 49-0 win. The Eagles' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Thompson Valley found their leader in sophomore Finley Lucas, who threw for 183 yards and three TDs, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. Tristin Hill helped Lucas out on the ground, rushing for 47 yards and a pair of scores.
Thompson Valley's run defense was locked in: Mountain View could only muster 0.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Forest Roberts for the heroic effort on defense: he. Thompson Valley's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.43 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 5.4 on average over their last five games.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Thompson Valley, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Lucas, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Fort Morgan's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Thompson Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Fort Morgan was dealt a bruising 35-0 defeat at the hands of Thompson Valley in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
