Softball Recap: Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Argenta-Oreana, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They skirted past the Rantoul Eagles 4-3. The victory continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.

SOPHIA MONTS made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. MONTS was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

MONTS wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was ANNA RAWLINS, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave RAWLINS a new career-high.

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond's win bumped their record up to 10-13. As for Rantoul, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Neoga at 4:30 p.m. on the 12th. As for Rantoul, they will venture away from home to challenge Illinois Valley Central at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Grey Ghosts have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
