Softball Recap: Irvin Comes Up Short

Irvin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against the Riverside Rangers, falling 18-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rockets of the 17-5 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Irvin saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kimberly De La Torre, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1. De La Torre has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Mia Gonzales also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Irvin's loss dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Riverside, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-11 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Irvin is set to take on their familiar foe Austin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Riverside will face off against rival Bowie at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
