Basketball Recap: Gilbert Comes Up Short

Gilbert was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles 74-47. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 237th, while the War Eagles are ranked 18th).

Despite the loss, Gilbert saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tyzai Smith posted ten points. Trevon Williamson was another key player, putting up seven points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gray Collegiate Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Justin Richburg, who went 6-for-15 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Richburg a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Quan Mcduffie, who had ten points in addition to seven assists and three steals.

Gilbert's defeat dropped their record down to 2-23. As for Gray Collegiate Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.

Gilbert does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gray Collegiate Academy, they will take on Aiken at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Gray Collegiate Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 12 contests.
