Softball Recap: Fairmont's Losing Streak Snapped at Three Games

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Fairmont and Centerville had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Firebirds came out on top against the Elks by a score of 9-5 on Monday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-9 on April 3rd.

Jaylin Turner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. Turner was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paige Russell, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Hannah Perdue, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Fairmont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.

The win snapped Fairmont's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-4 record. As for Centerville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Fairmont wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 13-3 victory against Beavercreek on the 23rd. As for Centerville, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-6 win against Wayne on the 23rd.
