Softball Game Preview: Providence Catholic Celtics vs. Benet Academy Redwings

Providence Catholic is a perfect 3-0 against Benet Academy since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Celtics will take on the Redwings at 4:30 p.m. Providence Catholic will be strutting in after a victory while Benet Academy will be coming in after a defeat.

Providence Catholic took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over Andrew.

Meanwhile, Benet Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against Marist, falling 20-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Redwings have suffered since April 29th.

Angela Horejs made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Sophia Rosner was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

Providence Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Benet Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-15.

Providence Catholic took their win against Benet Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2021 by a conclusive 12-4 score. Will the Celtics repeat their success, or do the Redwings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
