Soccer Game Preview: Independence vs. Lisbon

The Independence Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Lisbon Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Independence's defense has only allowed 0.4 goals per game this season, so Lisbon's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Independence's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Norwalk 1-0.

Meanwhile, after failing to score in their last game, Lisbon made sure to put some goals up on the board against West Delaware on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 5-0 victory. Considering Lisbon's offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Independence has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 61 goals over those 11 matchups. As for Lisbon, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2-2.

Everything went Independence's way against Lisbon in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Independence made off with a 4-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
