The Cisco Loboes will face off against the Spearman Lynx at 7:05 p.m. on Friday. Cisco is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 11 games.
Cisco is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 21-20 photo finish over Panhandle.
Cisco found their leader in sophomore Colby McIlroy, who rushed for 98 yards and one TD on only 12 carries, and also threw for 163 yards and one touchdown while completing 77.8% of his passes.
Cisco was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 220 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 154 rushing yards in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, in a tight matchup that could have gone either way, Spearman made off with a 28-27 victory over Anson.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Hudson Swan and Jailen Vasquez. Swan gained 146 total yards and three touchdowns while Vasquez threw for 122 yards and four TDs. Swan also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making four total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending three passes in addition to snagging an interception.
Spearman didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Dallen Scroggs and Swan. Another thorn in Anson's side was Landon Sonnenberg, who forced one fumble, made 15 total tackles, and defended two passes.
Cisco's win bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Spearman, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Cisco has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 182.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Spearman struggles in that department as they've been averaging 237.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything went Cisco's way against Spearman in their previous meeting back in November of 2019, as Cisco made off with a 41-17 win. Do the Loboes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lynx turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
