Softball Game Preview: Enfield Eagles vs. Manchester Red Hawks

Enfield has gone 6-1 against Manchester recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Eagles will host the Red Hawks at 3:45 p.m. Enfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Enfield's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past Granby Memorial 6-0. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

The result came thanks to Payten Stebbins's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Emily Lyver was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Anderson, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Manchester entered their game against East Catholic on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Red Hawks came up short against the Eagles, falling 17-6. The Red Hawks' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Enfield's win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Manchester, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.

Everything went Enfield's way against Manchester in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Enfield made off with an 8-2 win. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Red Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
