Baseball Game Preview: Breese Central Cougars vs. Mt. Vernon Rams

Breese Central hasn't had much luck against Mt. Vernon recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Cougars will head out to face off against the Rams at 4:30 p.m. Breese Central's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Mt. Vernon's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Breese Central came out on top against Roxana on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Cougars beat the Shells by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon came up short against Waterloo on Tuesday and fell 7-3.

Alex Kiefer made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Ty Pierce, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

Breese Central's victory bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Mt. Vernon, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.

Breese Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Mt. Vernon in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
