Softball Recap: Westerly Sets Scoring Season-High Against South Kingstown

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westerly). Everything went their way against the South Kingstown Rebels on Saturday as they made off with a 16-2 victory. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 19, 2021, but that streak is no more.

Avery Gingerella and Sophia Horton dominated on the mound. Gingerella pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits, while Horton pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, Gingerella posted two strikeouts, the most she's had over her last eight matchups.

On the hitting side, Addison Poole was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Dacia Gingerella, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs.

Westerly was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .364 or higher in three consecutive games.

The win got Westerly back to even at 7-7. As for South Kingstown, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westerly will host Waterford at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for South Kingstown, they will square off against East Greenwich at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The Avengers will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Rebels surely won't give up without a fight.
