Basketball Recap: East Alton-Wood River Takes a Loss

East Alton-Wood River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 75-36 loss at the hands of the Southwestern Piasa Birds. While losing is never fun, the Oilers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 650th, while the Piasa Birds are ranked 303rd).

Despite the loss, East Alton-Wood River still got an impressive performance from Tamarion Marshall, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Spiller, who posted 11 points.

Southwestern had a senior duo take command as Ian Brantley went 12 of 13 to rack up 31 points and eight rebounds and Ryan Lowis went 7 for 11 en route to 21 points and six boards. Brantley also set a new season-high mark in field goal percentage with 92%. Cason Robinson was another key player, putting up three points and five assists.

East Alton-Wood River's loss dropped their record down to 2-22. As for Southwestern, their victory bumped their record up to 14-11.

East Alton-Wood River didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 68-45 defeat against Sparta on the 5th. As for Southwestern, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 51-49 win against Vandalia on the 7th.
