Preview: Frankfort Redbirds vs. Hamilton County Foxes
Frankfort is 0-8 against Hamilton County since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Frankfort Redbirds will stay at home for another game and welcome the Hamilton County Foxes at 1:00 p.m. on January 27th.
While Frankfort couldn't quite beat DuQuoin on Thursday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 55-point loss they were dealt on Tuesday. Frankfort fell just short of DuQuoin by a score of 51-49. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Frankfort has suffered yet this season.
Meanwhile, Hamilton County's three-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They took down Flora 65-49. The win was just what Hamilton County needed coming off of a 58-32 defeat in their prior match.
Hamilton County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rayci Phelps led the charge by scoring 22 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Phelps has scored at least a third of Hamilton County's points. Kaylie Brake was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds and five assists.
Frankfort's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-22. As for Hamilton County, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-12.
Frankfort came up short against Hamilton County in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 49-41. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Phelps, who scored 18 points along with seven steals. Now that Frankfort knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
