Basketball Game Preview: Wheelersburg Pirates vs. River Valley Raiders

The Wheelersburg Pirates will square off against the River Valley Raiders at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

River Valley will be up against a hot Wheelersburg team: the squad just extended their winning streak to ten. Wheelersburg really took it to Oak Hill for the full four quarters, racking up a 50-5 victory. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Oaks are ranked 742nd), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask River Valley). They blew past Rock Hill 68-33 on Thursday. The win was familiar territory for the Raiders, who have now won three matches in a row.

Wheelersburg's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.0 points over those games. As for River Valley, their win bumped their record up to 17-6.
