Football Game Preview: Monte Vista Mustangs vs. California Grizzlies + How To Watch

Monte Vista is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will be playing at home against the California Grizzlies at 7:15 p.m. Monte Vista has given up an average of 25.7 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Monte Vista lost 38-13 to Oak Ridge on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 136th, while the Trojans are ranked 26th).

The losing side was boosted by Ian Ondricek, who threw for 209 yards and two TDs, and also rushed for 36 yards.

Even if they lost, Monte Vista's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Chase Wuischpard with two.

Meanwhile, California strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They took down San Ramon Valley 33-14.

California's win came from a few key players Monte Vista will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Banerjee Arjun, who threw for 268 yards and one touchdown while completing 76.9% of his passes, and also rushed for 36 yards. California's leading receiver Darius Brown was Arjun's top target yet again, picking up 105 receiving yards and one score.

California's win bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Monte Vista, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Monte Vista has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 182.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like California struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 157.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
