The Capital Golden Eagles will challenge the Mountain View Mavericks at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Capital has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Capital is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Owyhee, who was ranked first at the time (Capital was ranked 14th). The Golden Eagles came up short against the Storm on Friday, falling 15-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Golden Eagles were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, Mountain View got the win against Centennial on Friday by a conclusive 13-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mavericks.
Katy Jackson tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brooke Austin, who fired off three home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayelynn Puyleart, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Mountain View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Centennial only posted an OBP of .348.
Capital has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-8 record this season. As for Mountain View, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Capital hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .409. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Capital took their win against Mountain View when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 15-5 score. Will the Golden Eagles repeat their success, or do the Mavericks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
