Basketball Recap: Caney Creek Takes a Loss

Caney Creek lost against The Woodlands back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Caney Creek Panthers were outmatched by The Woodlands Highlanders and fell 61-20. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 980th, while the Highlanders are ranked 276th).

Yeiry Zamudio was Caney Creek's leading scorer, having posted eight points.

Aiden Pino was her usual excellent self, putting up 20 points and three steals for The Woodlands. With that strong performance, Pino is now averaging an impressive 15 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabel Benson, who posted eight points and five steals.

Caney Creek dropped their record down to 6-19 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for The Woodlands, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a massive bump to their 19-10 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Cleveland the next time they take the court. Caney Creek will head out to face Cleveland at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while The Woodlands will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
