Baseball Recap: Costa Mesa Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Costa Mesa waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the West Warriors. This was payback for the Mustangs, who suffered a 9-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Wylan Rottschafer made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aiden Comte, who went 2-for-5 with one home run.

Costa Mesa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Costa Mesa pushed their record up to 12-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for West, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

Costa Mesa will welcome Northview at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for West, they will face off against Covina at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warriors 3.7, the Colts 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
