Preview: Hernando Leopards vs. Weeki Wachee Hornets
The Hernando Leopards will be playing in front of their home fans against the Weeki Wachee Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Hernando posted their biggest win since December 20, 2023 on Friday. They breezed by Central at home to the tune of 46-8. The team accrued 36 points in the first half and coasted on those for the win.
Hernando's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kayla Holloman, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Aislin Ruppe, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Weeki Wachee waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins but they left with three. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 68-14 victory over Crystal River. With Weeki Wachee ahead 43-7 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Weeki Wachee's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Paige Atwater led the charge by scoring 23 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Joelys Rodriguez, who scored 12 points along with six steals and two blocks.
Hernando's victory bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Weeki Wachee, they pushed their record up to 14-7 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Hernando ended up a good deal behind Weeki Wachee in their previous meeting on January 6th, losing 48-29. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Weeki Wachee's Marlee Schumacher, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds.
