Softball Game Preview: St. Ignatius College Preparatory Wildcats vs. Capuchino Mustangs

The St. Ignatius College Preparatory Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Capuchino Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Ignatius College Preparatory is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

St. Ignatius College Preparatory took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Aragon, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. St. Ignatius College Preparatory had just enough and edged out Aragon 6-5. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by just one run.

Olivia Dollard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gianna Galarza, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Julie Galarza, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Meanwhile, Capuchino unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 13-0 to Saint Francis on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Mustangs have suffered since April 6, 2024.

St. Ignatius College Preparatory's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Capuchino, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 0-1.

St. Ignatius College Preparatory skirted past Capuchino 5-3 when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Does St. Ignatius College Preparatory have another victory up their sleeve, or will Capuchino turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
