Softball Game Preview: Venice Indians vs. West Port Wolf Pack

The Venice Indians will be taking part in a tournament against the West Port Wolf Pack at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Venice's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so West Port's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Venice's tournament run continued when they took on Bishop Kenny on Friday. Venice walked away with a 7-3 victory over Bishop Kenny.

Venice got a great performance from Olivia Wilkie as she tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Wilkie has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Addison Queen was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Riley Sullivan was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Venice was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, West Port came up short against Yulee on Friday and fell 5-1. The Wolf Pack have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

West Port saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emily Brinkman, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Venice is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. West Port's loss dropped their record down to 5-9.

Saturday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Venice has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .455. However, it's not like West Port struggles in that department as they've averaged .435. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
