Basketball Game Preview: West Springfield Spartans vs. Alexandria City Titans

West Springfield is 2-8 against Alexandria City since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The West Springfield Spartans will face off against the Alexandria City Titans at 7:15 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

West Springfield will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Fairfax, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. West Springfield pulled ahead with a 52-51 photo finish over Fairfax on Saturday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Alexandria City beat Chantilly 65-58 on Saturday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Titans' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 286th, while the Chargers are ranked 124th).

West Springfield better keep an eye on Maxwell Carew Jr. He was instrumental in Alexandria City's win, going 6 of 8 en route to 20 points. Those 20 points gave Carew Jr a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Walker, who posted 13 points.

West Springfield's win bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Alexandria City, their victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-11.

West Springfield suffered a grim 70-49 defeat to Alexandria City in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can West Springfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
