Plainfield hasn't had much luck against Decatur Central recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Quakers will face off against the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Plainfield will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each match than the last.
Plainfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-14 victory over Greenwood. The Quakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 21 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Luke Starnes, who rushed for 208 yards and two scores while picking up 13.0 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 65 yards. Bryce Sebanc was another key player, throwing for 205 yards and four TDs while completing 73.3% of his passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Plainfield was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 282 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenwood only rushed for 148 rushing yards.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Decatur Central's strategy against Mooresville on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Hawks blew the Pioneers out of the water with a 73-27 final score. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Pioneers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Decatur Central's win came from a few key players Plainfield will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Bo Polston, who threw for 82 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also punched in one score on the ground. Bryson Hunter also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Decatur Central, adding 19 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Hunter, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from Braylon Morris.
Plainfield's record now sits at 5-0. As for Decatur Central, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Plainfield has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 223.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Decatur Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 301.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Plainfield was taken down by Decatur Central 35-7 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Can the Quakers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
