Wesley Chapel had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. They took down the Sports Leadership & Management Spartans 77-59. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 61-55 loss the last time these two teams met.
Wesley Chapel got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was TJ Aguilar out in front who shot 55% from the field to rack up 19 points in addition to eight assists and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Fitzgerald, who almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds.
They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Wesley Chapel was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sports Leadership & Management only posted four.
Sports Leadership & Management's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Marcelino 'MJ' Rodriguez, who went 7-for-11 en route to 23 points, and Reginald Evans Jr, who posted 19 points and five boards.
Looking ahead, Wesley Chapel will take on Gateway Charter in a tournament on Monday. As for Sports Leadership & Management, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against North Tampa Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
