Basketball Recap: Perry Meridian Comes Up Short

Perry Meridian played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs, falling 52-30. The Falcons have struggled against the Grizzly Cubs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Perry Meridian lost, don't look at Sterlin Lewis. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. What's more, Lewis also posted two blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Jason Levi also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Even though they lost, Perry Meridian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Franklin Community only pulled down six offensive rebounds.

Franklin Community's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kolt Nelson, who put up eight points along with 12 boards and six assists. Another player making a difference was Jayce Nielson, who earned ten points and four steals.

Perry Meridian's loss dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Franklin Community, their victory bumped their record up to 7-11.

Coming up, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Falcons duke it out with the Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on February 21st. Perry Meridian is facing Decatur Central at the right time seeing as Decatur Central is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Franklin Community, they will host Plainfield at 7:30 p.m. on February 21st. Plainfield knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Franklin Community likes a good challenge.
