Volleyball Game Preview: Mayville Cardinals vs. Living Word Lutheran Timberwolves

The Mayville Cardinals will venture away from home to face off against the Living Word Lutheran Timberwolves at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Mayville is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They blew past Cedar Grove-Belgium 3-0. The Cardinals not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since October 2nd (when they won 3-0).

Mayville not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Cedar Grove-Belgium between 18 and 21 points across their sets. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-21.

Mayville found their leader in freshman Neva Mittlesdat, who had 17 assists and five digs. With that strong performance, Mittlesdat is now averaging an impressive 12.1 assists per game. Brielle Ehlers also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Meanwhile, Living Word Lutheran entered their tilt with Winnebago Lutheran Academy on Thursday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Vikings.

Living Word Lutheran was especially dominant in the second set. The final score came out to 25-16, 25-11, 25-19.

Mayville's record is now 21-12. As for Living Word Lutheran, their record now sits at 31-7.

Mayville suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Living Word Lutheran in their previous meeting back in September of 2024. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
