Softball Recap: Waccamaw Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Waccamaw took a 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against Marlboro County, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Warriors won by a run and slipped past the Bulldogs 6-5. This was payback for the Warriors, who suffered an 11-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Reese Rutkowski made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Rutkowski was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elizabeth Ashcraft, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Ella Marina Papadea also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

Waccamaw hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five strikeouts batters in four consecutive matches.

Waccamaw's win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-3. As for Marlboro County, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-8.

Waccamaw didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-1 loss against Loris on the 27th. As for Marlboro County, they have also already played their next game, a 13-2 defeat against Dillon on the 28th.
