Softball Preview: Calistoga Wildcats vs. Laytonville Warriors
Calistoga hasn't had much luck against Laytonville recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warriors at 4:00 p.m.
Calistoga is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 33 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Tomales on Monday. They fell just short of the Braves by a score of 3-2.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Laytonville). Everything went their way against Technology last Friday as they made off with a 25-3 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Warriors with their most commanding win of the season.
Brigid Henry was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. Henry is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least two every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Trinity Davis, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Laytonville hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Technology struck out 11 times.
The win made it two in a row for Laytonville and bumps their season record up to 3-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Calistoga, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 6-5.
Calistoga might still be hurting after the 26-10 loss they got from Laytonville in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
