The Homestead Mustangs will face off against the Archbishop Mitty Monarchs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Homestead will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Homestead's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They came out on top against Half Moon Bay by a score of 4-0.
The result came thanks to Mackenzie Smith's shutout, as she gave up just four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Homestead saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leela Menon, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Homestead hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Archbishop Mitty). They walked away with a 13-8 win over Carlmont on Tuesday. With that victory, the Monarchs brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Archbishop Mitty also got a great performance from Kyleigh Mace as she struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Archbishop Mitty let Rylie Hicks and Olivia Anderson run wild. Hicks went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, while Anderson scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-6. That's the most runs Anderson has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Danika Contreras, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Archbishop Mitty's win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Homestead, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.
Both Homestead and Archbishop Mitty just can't seem to miss. Homestead has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Archbishop Mitty struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
