Volleyball Recap: Archbishop Mccarthy Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Gabriel Segui and Stephen Blakely

Archbishop McCarthy lost against Cypress Bay back in May of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks lost 3-0 to the Cypress Bay Lightning.

Archbishop McCarthy was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the third set very close. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-20, 25-22.

Archbishop McCarthy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Stephen Blakely, who had 20 assists, and Gabriel Segui, who had seven digs and one assist. Blakely is on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted 12 or more in each of the last nine games he's played dating back to last season.

Among those leading the charge was Alejandro Navarro, who had 21 assists and five digs.

Archbishop McCarthy's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1.

Archbishop McCarthy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 victory against Park Vista on the 7th. Cypress Bay has also already played their next contest (against Pompano Beach), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
