Recap: Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles vs. Ygnacio Valley Wolves
The Clayton Valley Charter Ugly Eagles managed to keep up with the Ygnacio Valley Wolves until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Clayton Valley Charter was dealt a 66-39 loss at the hands of Ygnacio Valley. It was the first time this season that Clayton Valley Charter let down their fans at home.
Clayton Valley Charter's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Chase Robertson, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Vince Ellis who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Ygnacio Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Antonio Kellogg Jr out in front who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Kellogg Jr has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jalan Cody, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Clayton Valley Charter's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-6. As for Ygnacio Valley, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-5.
Clayton Valley Charter will head out on the road to face off against College Park at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. College Park will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 509th, while Clayton Valley Charter is ranked 70th). As for Ygnacio Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northgate at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Northgate knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Ygnacio Valley likes a good challenge.
