Baseball Recap: Dixie Heights Takes a Loss

Dixie Heights had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 7-12-1 to make it six. They came up short against the Walton-Verona Bearcats, falling 9-0. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Colonels' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Walton-Verona, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-9 record. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by eight runs or more this season.

For Walton-Verona's part, the team relied heavily on Kainan Held, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those four RBI gave Held a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Miles Lehmkuhl, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Dixie Heights will challenge Grant County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Braves' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Colonels' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Walton-Verona, they will face off against Covington Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
