Basketball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Smithfield's Winning Streak

Smithfield was the 70-66 winner over New Kent when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Smithfield Packers fell to the New Kent Trojans 85-79. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (67), the Packers still had to take the loss.

New Kent's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kyle Diggs, who dropped a triple-double on 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists. Diggs has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Will Ross was another key player, going 7 for 14 on his way to 25 points.

With the defeat, Smithfield broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-2. As for New Kent, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.

Smithfield will face off against Lakeland at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for New Kent, they will square off against Warhill at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
