Softball Recap: Assumption Takes a Loss

Assumption had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 25-9 to make it five. They fell just short of the Anderson County Bearcats by a score of 5-3. If the Rockets were looking for revenge after losing 5-0 to the Bearcats when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Ava Lou Mattingly was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits.

On the hitting side, Lauren Campisano was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Satterly, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles.

As for Anderson County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 20 of their last 21 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

On Anderson County's side, Lacey Osborne spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on ten hits.

At the plate, Anderson County's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Liliana Mefford, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Mefford has posted since back in April.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Assumption will challenge Male at 6:00 p.m. on the 21st. As for Anderson County, they will face off against Boyle County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
