Baseball Game Preview: Canyon Comanches vs. Pacifica Mariners

For the first time this season, Canyon will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. They will head out on the road to square off against the Pacifica Mariners at 3:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Canyon has three straight wins, Pacifica has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If Canyon beats Pacifica with five runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Canyon sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over San Juan Hills on Friday.

The team relied heavily on Blake Lau, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Lloyd, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Canyon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Pacifica fell victim to Liberty and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bison. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Mariners were not able to get on the board.

Pacifica's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Canyon, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Canyon was able to grind out a solid win over Pacifica in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Canyon since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
