Softball Recap: Fountain Central Mustangs vs. Clinton Prairie Gophers
Fountain Central lost against Clinton Prairie back in May of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Fountain Central Mustangs fell just short of the Clinton Prairie Gophers by a score of 7-5.
Fountain Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Jones, who went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and a double.
Even though they lost, Fountain Central was hitting in the alleys and finished the game with three doubles. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clinton Prairie didn't hit any.
On Clinton Prairie's side, Sadie Weliver made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Weliver was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Haven Wilson was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Lily Coleman was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
Fountain Central's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Clinton Prairie, their victory bumped their record up to 5-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fountain Central's homestand will continue as they prepare to take on Sheridan at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Clinton Prairie will take on Lafayette Jefferson at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Clinton Prairie is facing Lafayette Jefferson at the right time seeing as Lafayette Jefferson is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
