Football Recap: Bel Air Highlanders vs. Parkland Matadors

Bel Air lost against Parkland back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Highlanders came up short against the Matadors, falling 42-21. The Highlanders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Bernie Martinez and Marquette Beard certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Martinez rushed for 96 yards and one touchdown, while Beard rushed for 59 yards and a pair of TDs.

Parkland got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jesse Molina out in front who threw for 161 yards and three TDs. That's the most passing yards Molina has posted since back in November of 2024. Carter Perez handled things on the ground, rushing for 82 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Bel Air's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4-1. As for Parkland, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-4 record.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Bel Air is set to challenge their familiar foe Americas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Parkland will take on rival El Dorado at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 862 yards in their previous games.
