High school football: Top 20 Oklahoma players from the Class of 2022

Uncommitted dour-stars Gentry Williams, Chris McClellan sit atop Sooner State prospects.

Ahead of the 2021 high school football season, MaxPreps is breaking down the top senior prospects in the country state-by-state as rated by 247Sports. We continue the series with Oklahoma, which opens play Aug. 27.

Nearly half of the top 20 prospects in the state plan to stay close with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State keeping nine players home. The talent is spread out among high schools as well as Owasso, Beggs and Choctaw are the only schools with two players on the list. Top recruits Gentry Williams of Booker T. Washington and Owasso's Chris McClellan are uncommitted.

The talent also is spread with nine different positions represented. The secondary has five players among the top 20, while the defensive line logs four players.

1. Gentry Williams | Booker T. Washington (Tulsa)
6-0 | 170 | CB | Uncommitted

The four-star with 18 offers is coming back from an ACL tear in the first game of 2020, but is a versatile prospect who'll likely play in the secondary in college. Also a track speedster, Williams plays both ways and is under center on offense.

2. Chris McClellan | Owasso
6-3 | 295 | DL | Uncommitted

A "real handful at the point of attack," the four-star already has college-ready size with good range and agility. Ohio State and Oklahoma appear to be tops among the 35 offers he's received.

3. Talyn Shettron | Edmond Santa Fe (Edmond)
6-3 | 185 | WR | Oklahoma State

A high-major prospect with 19 offers, the two-sport standout also shines on the basketball court where the high-pointing and body control add to his football skills. Lean and athletic, Shettron is a big-play receiver headed to Stillwater.

4. Maurion Horn | Broken Arrow
5-11 | 175 | ATH | Texas Tech commit

The future Red Raider is the No. 9 athlete in his class nationally, according to the 247Sports composite. He ran for 1,079 yards and 13 total TDs for the 7-4 Tigers.

5. Jacob Sexton | Deer Creek (Edmond)
6-5 | 285 | OT | Oklahoma

The three-sport athlete also excels in wrestling in addition to throwing the discus and shot put. A four-star lineman, he chose the Sooners over over 19 offers, including Alabama, Texas and Texas A&M.

6. CJ Brown | Beggs
5-11 | 185 | RB | Oklahoma State

The four-star rusher helped the Demons to the state 2A Final Four while rushing for 1,502 yards and 19 touchdowns. He picked the Cowboys over 10 other schools including Arkansas, Baylor and Iowa State.



7. Jayden Rowe | Union (Tulsa)
6-3 | 210 | CB | Oklahoma

The three-star has speed to burn and a tremendous upside. He ran a 10.46 second 100-meters and chose the Sooners over 13 offers after leading the Redskins to the 6A semis.

8. Braylin Presley | Bixby
5-7 | 155 | ATH | Oklahoma State

Chose the Cowboys after running for 1,744 yards and 25 scores while adding 727 yards receiving and 10 more scores in 2020 for the Spartans. Headed to Stillwater over 17 other offers including Army and Baylor.

9. Andre Dollar | Mustang
6-5 | 230 | TE | Oregon

Has the size to play FBS football and is the 20th ranked tight end nationally, according to the 247Sports composite. Chose the Ducks over 23 offers including Arizona State, Arkansas and Iowa State.

10. DeSean Brown | Choctaw
6-3 | 230 | EDGE | Uncommitted

The three-star lineman has 15 offers and appears to be leaning toward staying in-state with the Cowboys. He logged 75 tackles in 2020 along with 30.5 tackles for loss and 15 sacks.

11. Robert Spears-Jennings | Broken Arrow
6-1 | 195 | S | Oklahoma

Lined up mostly at wide receiver in 2020 with 36 receptions for 721 yards and four TDs. The three-star prospect has 14 offers and clocked an 11.48 100 meters..

12. Cade McConell | Choctaw
6-5 | 290 | OL | TCU

A versatile lineman, the son of a former D-II All-America defensive lineman at Pittsburg State lined up at right guard, left guard and right tackle for the Yellowjackets. Chose the Horned Frogs over seven offers.

13. Mason Gilkey | Pawhuska
6-4 | 185 | WR | Oklahoma State

Had a productive season for the Huskies in 2020, catching 56 passes for 1,261 yards and 26 TDs. The No. 81 wide receiver nationally had the lone offer from the Cowboys.

14. Jaleel Johnson | Putnam City North (Oklahoma City)
6-4 | 235 | DL | Oklahoma State

Can line up anywhere on the defensive front, the three-star chose the in-state Cowboys over 12 offers. He logged 49 tackles in 2020 with 13 tackles for loss and four sacks.



15. Jake Clifton | Owasso
6-2 | 205 | LB | Kansas State

A backer with a nose for the ball, the Rams three-star chose the Wildcats over 12 offers including Washington State and Air Force. An all-around athlete, he also competes in the 200, 400, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and high jump.

16. Gabe Brown | Stillwater
6-2 | 210 | LB | Oklahoma State

The three-star had 126 tackles in 2019 and led the Pioneers to a 9-1 season in 2020, losing in the 6A semis. He had seven offers, including Air Force, Army, Navy and Baylor.

17. Corey Gordon | Putnam City West (Oklahoma City)
6-1 | 175 | S | Baylor

Joins a strong recruiting class for the Bears after receiving eight offers. Played wide receiver for the Patriots as well and competed in the high jump, long jump and 300 hurdles.

18. Nunu Campbell | Holland Hall (Tulsa)
5-11 | 175 | CB | Uncommitted

As a junior, played all three phases while helping the Dutch to a 3A title. Campbell has eight offers including Washington State, Ball State, Kansas and Tulsa. He finished 2020 with 47 tackles and four interceptions.

19. Maliek Bogard | Beggs
6-6 | 210 | EDGE | Uncommitted

A three-star with six offers appears to be leaning toward SMU, but has Arkansas State, Indiana and Iowa State also chasing.

20. Carson May | Jones
6-5 | 220 | QB | Iowa

The future Hawkeye threw for more than 3,000 yards and 26 scores in 2020 while leading the Longhorns to a 9-3 mark and 2A third-round playoff appearance. He chose Iowa over three offers including Baylor and Colorado.
