Basketball Game Preview: Mayfield Trojans vs. Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls

Mayfield hasn't had much luck against Carlsbad recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Both will face off at 1:00 p.m. without much rest having both just played. One thing working in Mayfield's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.

Mayfield will face Carlsbad after dropping another heartbreaker against Roswell on Friday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 3.1 of beating them. Mayfield lost 76-56 to Roswell. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while the Coyotes are ranked tenth).

Meanwhile, Carlsbad was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 47-41 to Organ Mountain. The game marked the Cavemen/Cavegirls' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Mayfield's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Carlsbad, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.
