Recap: Chapin Huskies vs. Canutillo Eagles
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Chapin Huskies ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 31-30 victory over Canutillo. The win was just what Chapin needed coming off of a 65-21 loss in their prior contest.
Chapin's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ja'Zaya Valadez-Hernandez, who scored six points along with seven steals. Samantha Wise was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Canutillo still got an impressive performance from Rebekah Perez, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mikira Wilkes, who scored nine points.
Chapin has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-17 record this season. As for Canutillo, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chapin will take on the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Canutillo, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Silver Foxes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Jefferson has now lost 18 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 17.
