Football Game Preview: Spencer Greenwave vs. Sumter County Panthers

The Spencer Greenwave will take on the Sumter County Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Spencer's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 39-0 win over Kendrick. The victory was familiar territory for the Greenwave, who have now won three contests in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sumter County). They blew past Jordan 62-0 on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Panthers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Red Jackets are ranked 463rd).

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Sumter County, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Alex Brown, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Sumter County's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Spencer, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Spencer and Sumter County were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in October of 2024, but Spencer came up empty-handed after a 21-20 defeat.
