Winfield waltzed into their match on Thursday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They came out on top against the Shady Spring Tigers by a score of 5-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Generals also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Preston Keiffer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Blake Withrow was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI. Brayson Downey was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Winfield pushed their record up to 20-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Shady Spring, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-11-1.

Looking ahead, Winfield will venture away from home to challenge Huntington at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Shady Spring, they will welcome Midland Trail at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.16 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
