Basketball Recap: Thomas Jefferson Extends Winning Streak to Three

Thomas Jefferson had won two straight games and Vanson Wells did his part to make it three on Wednesday. The Thomas Jefferson Spartans simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Hinkley Thunder 73-41 thanks in part to Wells, who went 11-for-17 to rack up 27 points and three steals. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last five games he's played.

Luke Cuellar was another key player, putting up ten points and six steals. That's the most steals he has posted since back in January of 2024.

Malachi Holden and Gabe Makonnen certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Holden almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Makonnen went 5-for-7 on his way to 11 points. That was a full 46.3% of Hinkley's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Thomas Jefferson's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Hinkley, they dropped their record down to 0-18 with the defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Thomas Jefferson has already played their next game, a 72-40 win against Aurora Central on the 13th. As for Hinkley, they will face off against Regis Groff at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
