Baseball Game Preview: Kermit Yellow Jackets vs. Denver City Mustangs

The Kermit Yellow Jackets will head out on the road to challenge the Denver City Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kermit is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.

Kermit proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by nine) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over Alpine.

Kermit saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zakry Salais, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Salais has become a key player for the Yellow Jackets: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 6-9 otherwise. Another was Sergio Quiroz, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Denver City got themselves on the board against Brownfield last Tuesday, but Brownfield never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Cubs with a sharp 7-0 victory. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Denver City has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Kermit, their victory ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 10-9.

Kermit might still be hurting after the 15-4 defeat they got from Denver City in their previous matchup back in May of 2022. Can the Yellow Jackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
