Basketball Recap: Avon Comes Up Short

Avon was the 61-36 winner over Westport when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Avon Panthers took a blow against the Westport Wildcats on Wednesday, falling 66-39. The contest marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Avon lost, don't look at Thomas Edwards. Despite the final result, he went 5 for 9 on his way to 19 points. With that strong performance, Edwards is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Douglas Ateku, who posted two points and five rebounds.

Avon's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Westport, the win keeps them at an undefeated 3-0-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Avon will head out to square off against Cohasset at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Westport, they will face off against Belmont at 5:45 p.m. on Friday.
