Baseball Game Preview: Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints vs. St. Anne's-Belfield Saints

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against St. Anne's-Belfield at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Southampton Academy. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy never let Southampton Academy get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Friday. The Saints haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Gavin Angelillo made a big impact no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Phoenix Hope looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

Back at the plate, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy let Noah Brooks and Cam Bergen run wild. Brooks scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Bergen scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Bergen has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cole Goodman, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

St. Anne's-Belfield not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 30, 2024. They blew past Catholic 8-0.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy beat St. Anne's-Belfield 9-4 in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Will Nansemond-Suffolk Academy repeat their success, or does St. Anne's-Belfield have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
