Volleyball Recap: Amelie Bellemans' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Castilleja over King's Academy

After flying high against Eastside College Prep on Thursday, Castilleja came back down to earth. The Gators took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the King's Academy Knights on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-2 on October 7th.

Castilleja started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-18.

Several Gators players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Amelie Bellemans, who had 11 digs and one block. Bellemans is also crushing it when it comes to assists: she's posted at least 12 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Rubi Ochoa, who had 22 digs and three aces.

King's Academy found their leader in freshman Shuwen Jin, who had 22 digs.

Castilleja has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season. As for King's Academy, they pushed their record up to 18-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

As of now, neither Castilleja nor the Knights have any future games scheduled.
