Chattanooga Christian and Boyd-Buchanan are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Chargers will head out on the road to face off against the Buccaneers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Chattanooga Christian will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
On Friday, Chattanooga Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over Bradley Central, taking the game 7-3. That's two games straight that the Chargers have won by exactly four runs.
Nyla Halfacre was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Alli Matthews also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Halfacre wasn't the only one making solid contact: Chattanooga Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in ten consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Boyd-Buchanan suffered their closest loss since April 4, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Silverdale Academy by a score of 3-1. The Buccaneers haven't had much luck with the Seahawks recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Kinley Ervin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Boyd-Buchanan saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cailyn Butler, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Chattanooga Christian's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Boyd-Buchanan, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-7.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Chattanooga Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .388. However, it's not like Boyd-Buchanan struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chattanooga Christian was able to grind out a solid win over Boyd-Buchanan in their previous matchup last Friday, winning 10-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
