Baseball Game Preview: Slaton Tigers vs. Littlefield Wildcats

The Slaton Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Littlefield Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Slaton took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Muleshoe, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers skirted past the Mules 5-3. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Tigers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

The team relied heavily on Riley Martinez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jabob Luna, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple.

Slaton hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Muleshoe struck out seven times.

Meanwhile, Littlefield had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They never let the Chieftans get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Slaton's record now sits at 5-14-1. As for Littlefield, their record is now 17-7.

Slaton suffered a grim 16-5 defeat to Littlefield when the teams last played back in March. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
