Soccer Game Preview: Bunnell vs. Pomperaug

The Bunnell Bulldogs will face off against the Pomperaug Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Bunnell is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Newtown, who was ranked 12th at the time (Bunnell was ranked 16th). Neither the Bulldogs nor the Nighthawks could gain the upper hand on Thursday so the two teams had to settle for a 0-0 draw. The result (or lack thereof) was the first time Bunnell have been dealt a draw since back in September.

Meanwhile, Pomperaug came tearing into Thursday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 2.7 goals), and they left with even more momentum. Their defense stepped up to hand the Bobcats a 5-0 shutout.

With that draw, Bunnell's record moves to 11-2-2. As for Pomperaug, their win bumped their record up to 10-6-1.

Bunnell took their victory against Pomperaug when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
